The Woman who caused a Revival

This entry is part 3 of 17 in the series Women

The next morning the woman was waiting at the fountain. The heroes could not wait to tell her who she was.

“We have found facts to confirm the puzzle pieces you gave us. These facts are as follows:”

The name of the place where you come from does begin with an S as well as the village you live in. You live in Samaria in a village called Sychar.

You met Jesus Christ at the well one day at noon. When He asked you for a drink of water, you were very surprised because He was a Jew and you were a Samaritan. The Jews and Samaritans did not get on at all. The Northern kingdom of Israel was conquered by the Assyrians and scattered amongst the nations. The Assyrian king did the same with Samaria. He left some Jews behind in Samaria and placed other people from different nations there. This resulted in intermarriages and different religions. When the Jews returned from their exile in Babylon to rebuild the Temple and the walls of Jerusalem, they would not allow the Samaritans help them.

When Jesus asked you about your husband, you were very honest with Him. You told Jesus that you do not have a husband. Jesus confirmed it and gave you a word of knowledge that you had five husbands and the one you were living with was not your husband. This confirmed to you that you were talking to a prophet.

You asked Jesus a theological question. You asked him where the correct place to pray is. The Jews prayed in Jerusalem at the Temple and the Samaritans on Mount Gerizim. Jesus answered you by telling you that God is Spirit. The time has come when His people will pray in Spirit and in truth. His exact words were:

Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:21-24 NLT)

The woman at the fountain jumped up and down and shouted that she remembered.

She then told the heroes and heroines how she had left her water jug at the well and ran back to the village to tell everybody that she had met the Messiah. The whole village came to listen to Jesus and they believed in Him as their Saviour.

The heroes nodded their head and told her that this was the first revival recorded in the Bible. It is recorded in the book of John in chapter four. The heroes had also read the blog posts Through Samaria , The woman at the well and The harvest and revival in Sychar.

Great outline about Jesus and the woman at the well – never thought of it as a revival. Interesting perspective.

Thanks Lori glad you enjoyed it.

And that woman was not condemned by Jesus, but transformed! She told everyone about her Savior and started a revival. Bottom line…. God uses women no matter where we are in our life, no matter what our past is. We are of value and worth to Him. Let the revival begin…..

So true Barbara. I think we will be shocked if we realized how much God uses women.

Isn’t this also a message to Isreal, in that the woman is Isreal and must make a choice to have only one God?
